We can bitch and whine all we want, the bottom line is that no one wants to suffer the headache of having to defend themselves before some bought and paid for judge. Oh sure there are some who truly do ignore public opinion and administer the law as they interpret it, but they are far and few these days.
So from a business view point we make every effort to comply with the laws, no matter how draconian and assinine they might be. There are bad laws, 2257 is one of them.

There are a great many Americans that I know personally, and I love them dearly. They are some of the most generous and warm hearted folks I have ever met. However, they are sadly, not representative of the Majority.

In fact the United Nations Charter of Human Rights is one architected by a Canadian. And it was the United States that was the really stubborn one in getting it past so many decades ago.
Woman got to vote first in Australia not the United States and it was Great Britain that led the way in bringing about Child Labour laws that are the backbone of most legislation today protecting minors from unscrupolous employers.
Slavery was abolished in the late 1700's in the British Empire which is what truly led to the American War of Indpendence. It wasnt abolished in the United States until near the end of the Civil War there. Trading in human lifes was a major business by the United States which is partially responsible for the war of 1814 and the burning of Washington.
So while the United States lays claim to being the Greatest Democracy That There Is, the world knows how hollow those words are. The world knows that true democracy does not exist within the borders of the United States then, nor now.
